Phoenix Peace Builders  is dedicated to realizing Dr. Martin Luther King’s dream of a Nonviolent, just, and compassionate society where everyone can reach their highest potential. We are educators, consultants, and activists who work to overcome racism and other forms of violence.

ABOUT THE CO-FOUNDERS.

Mark Klym is certified by the University of Rhode Island, Center for Nonviolence and Peace Studies as a Level II Kingian Nonviolence Trainer and holds a Master of Public Administration degree. He has 20+ years experience in violence prevention programs and is a co-founder and co-director of the Phoenix Peace Builders. He enjoys working with several peace and justice organizations to promote the wisdom and strategies of Nonviolence through education, public events and activism.​

hassan first got involved with the program in 2009. He initially got involved in Kingian Nonviolence, not to change the world, but to change himself. Now, hassan has gained a Language and methodology to enact change and movement towards the Beloved Community. hassan clement is a member of the Nonviolence Legacy Program and a community activist with the Amphi Neighborhood Association for tenant rights.

ABOUT THE TEAM

Benita is a Master Benefits Specialist who provides assistance and guidance regarding school services and benefits, especially for Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and 504 Plans (for those with disabilities). Benita can assist with Social Security and Long Term Care Benefits.  Benita is familiar with a wide variety of Community Service Organizations in AZ and can refer people to them.

Azul Navarrete-Valera is a pre-law student at the University of Arizona, is the current Co-President of the Tucson Native Youth Council and a member of the Nonviolence Legacy Program. As an Indigeneity and Kingian Nonviolence Educator and a member of the Indigenous/Chicanx people in Tucson, AZ, Azul’s passion is building unity and helping youth find their inner fire and to be leaders now. Azul is also a member of the all-female Latin Mariachi group, Las Azaleas.

Dr. Albert Celoza has taught political science, global studies and world religions for the past thirty years for Phoenix College, Arizona State University and the Thunderbird School of Global Management. He has a master’s degree in theology and religious studies from the University of San Francisco and received his doctoral degree in politics from the Claremont Graduate University.
