The film narrates the impact of the Gandhian message of nonviolence worldwide; how it inspired Martin Luther King Jr. and the Civil Rights Movement in the USA, the Solidarity Movement in Poland, The Velvet Revolution of Havel, and the Anti-Apartheid strife and Nelson Mandela’s fight against injustice, oppression, racism and his struggle to restore basic human rights/dignity for the colored citizens of South Africa. This Indian produced and directed 2021 film includes interviews with world renowned scholars, biographers, as well as close family members of Mahatma Gandhi and Nobel Laureates such as HH The Dalai Lama, and Former Polish President Lech Walesa. The feature documentary weaves in rare archival footage, photographs, and inspirational songs, to put together a compelling and powerful narrative of the impact of Ahimsa, interpreted in the West as nonviolence. The film was awarded the U.N. Gold Medal Peace Award.

World Peace Day: Each year the International Day of Peace (IDP) is observed around the world on 21 September. The International Day of Peace was established in 1981 by the United Nations General Assembly. Two decades later, in 2001, the General Assembly unanimously voted to designate the Day as a period of non-violence and cease-fire. It is a day devoted to strengthening the ideals of peace; a call to action that recognizes our individual and collective responsibility to foster peace. 2023 was also the 75th anniversary of the United Nations’ Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
Sponsoring Ministry — Vision and Mission of the Peace Ministry: “Energized by prayer with the Holy Spirit, the Casa Peace Ministry creates peace through nonviolence in our hearts, our communities, and our world. Our mission is to to serve God by promoting peace: through contemplative prayer and reflection, loving our neighbor, and enthusiastically working for the common good.” Here are a few examples of what we do as a Faith in Action (FIA) ministry team: we offer several “Popcorn Pizza and Peace” movie nights per year and we offer fair trade chocolate at Christmas to the Casa community. If you are interested in joining this team, email peace@thecasa.org. Faith in Action Ministry at the Franciscan Renewal Center patterns our work on the lives of Saints Francis and Clare of Assisi by compassionately putting the love of God in the world in concrete ways.
